Arturo Melocchi was a singing teacher, a pianist and a composer, an expert in phoniatry, he was really an “Maestro Eccezionale” (Extraordinary) as his pupil Mario del Monaco publicly called him. He was the promoter of a teaching method of the art of singing, which has enjoyed acknowledgements worldwide and became famous mainly thanks to his well known pupils. Melocchi invented the so-called “strong method”, which established artists such as Umberto Chiodo, Mario del Monaco, Costantina Vitali, Roberto Paglierani, Ettore Parmeggiani, Saturno Meletti, Walter Monachesi, Gastone Limarilli, Augusto Cingolani, Francesco Baldelli, Vincenzo Cecchetelli, Guido Santori, Jiri Wood, Franco Corelli and many more “The great charm of this man was in the fact that he had a great cultural knowledge, both musical and literary (a composer, a pianist and a polyglot), He enjoyed worldwide fame, sincere esteem of the most famous musicians of his time and had a clear vision of what the stage would be like in the future. This was the fruit of all that he had created through his will, passion and pure dedication to art. Thanks to his teachings, his pupils reached the stage with an already rich cultural baggage, with no histrionism, humble but above all complete in music and in style, able to face prestigious cooperation and knowledge of the role in musical theatre in order to become “alfieri”, unique in specific characters, without underestimating what is unique in everyone’s musical nature. To this noble end, the Maestro urged to work hard all those who deserved it.” (Robleto Merolla, “Quaderni Marchigiani”, Convention Records) |
